Apple is set to release iPhone and touch OS 3.0 on June 17th. But if you’re too eager and can’t wait that long, you can download it here. This is the full version of OS 3.0. This isn’t a BETA and you don’t need a developers key to use it.

Be aware that this will remove all elements on your device including jailbreak, music, , etc. You can always sync your content back on after installing the new but you will have to wait for a jailbreak.

Steps:

1. Download . Make sure that you do download the correct for the device that you have.

iPhone 2G
iPhone 3G
ipsw for iPod touch 1st Gen
ipsw for iPod touch 2nd Gen

(These are the direct downloads of ipsw files from Apple’s servers, we have not uploaded them).

2. Open iTunes and plug in your device.

3. Hold the Shift key (or Option key for Mac) and click the Restore button.

4. A pop-up should come. Browse to the .ipsw file that you downloaded in Step 1.

5. Let iTunes do its thing. Once it’s done, you should be on 3.0 before everyone else!

    Hey, many thanks for this.

I have a 1G iTouch and updated to 2.2.1. Since doing this, my wi-fi has not worked. Despite resetting both wi-fi and network settings, it still does not work (countless efforts in areas with open wi-fi networks). Researching this online, I found it to be a very common problem with 2.2.1 update.

Do you know whether 3.0 addresses these issues? And if not, would it be better to restore the original firmware for wi-fi reasons on 1G models? 3.0 seems catered more for the 2G and above models.

    Many thanks
