iPod Touch 1st & 2nd Gen – Windows/Mac

Before You Begin:

*Backup and Restore your iPod Touch (optional)

Connect to iTunes and sync. If you have any Cydia apps from a previous firmware, they will be deleted after you restore. Here’s a few places you may want to back up manually if you’re worried about it…

/var/mobile/Library/AddressBook – Contacts

/var/mobile/Library/Calendar – Calendar

/var/mobile/Library/Notes – Notes

/var/mobile/Library/Safari – Bookmarks, Cookies

/var/mobile/Library/SMS – Text Messages.

*Update iTunes to 8.2

Go to help and click check for updates

*Download iPod Touch 3.0 firmware

Find the Firmware Download link on this site (left sidebar under iPod Touch/iPhone Firmware)


*Download Redsn0w 0.7.2 for Windows or Redsn0w 0.7.2 for Mac

Follow the steps:

Step 1. Connect your iPod Touch 1G/2G to your computer

Step 2. In iTunes 8.2 select your iPod under DEVICES in left menu

Step 3. Under the Summary tab, Hold Shift and click Restore

Step 4. Browse to the iPod Touch 3.0 firmware file (the one you downloaded from this site)

Step 5. iTunes will extract the software and apply it. Do not disconnect until it finishes updating.

Step 6. Your iPod Touch is now running 3.0 Firmware

Step 7. Run the Redsn0w.exe

Step 8. Browse to the same iPod Touch 3.0 firmware file used in Step 4 (the one you downloaded from this site)

Step 9: Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue. Make sure Cydia is selected and click the Next button.

Step 10: RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode.

Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.

Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.

Step 11: Your iPod Touch will now reboot

Step 12: RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk.

Step 13: Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button. After your iPod Touch finishes rebooting (5 minutes or so), it will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.

Step 14: Show off your jailboken 3.0 iPod Touch! Tell them you learned from this site!

iPhone 2G & 3G – Windows/Mac

Before You Begin:

*Download iPhone 3.0 firmware

Find the Firmware Download link on this site (left sidebar under iPod Touch/iPhone Firmware)

*Download Redsn0w 0.7.2 for Windows or Redsn0w 0.7.2 for Mac

Follow the steps:

Step 1: Connect your iPhone to your computer

Step 2: In iTunes select your iPhone under DEVICES in left menu

Step 3: Under the Summary tab, Hold Shift and click Restore

Step 4: Browse to the iPhone 3.0 firmware file (the one you downloaded from this site)
